4 things that didn't seem right in URI: The Surgical Strike
URI: The Surgical Strike is already in theatres and is a massive hit. The movie showcases the amazing surgical strikes carried out by the brave and amazing Indian Army Special Commandos.
The surgical strikes were a retaliation and a response to the attacks at the URI base camp on 18th September 2016 where armed militants killed our brave soldiers who were unarmed.
The world loved the work by the Indian armed forces and the phrase,'Howz the Josh?' has become a phenomenon which is used by everyone, from a small kid to politicians and others since the movie on the Surgical Strikes was released.
While the movie is all about the valor and vigor of our brave armed forces, I for one found 4 issues that didn't really sound good, or too good to be true. While one aspect of the overall strike kept me thinking on the decision making of Vihaan Shergill, played by Vicky Kaushal.
Now, before you start questioning the blog or my viewpoints, let me reiterate that I loved the work done by our armed forces in real life which has been showcased in reel, but these points didn't fit the spectrum:
1) Alzheimer's Issue
We all know and understand that older people in the family suffer from some ailments and it is a common concern, but in the movie a lot of emphasis was given to this aspect, and was used a means to reveal Yami Gautam's character. I am confident that even without the overall alzheimer's angle, the movie could have worked well, and Yami's character could have been introduced during the meet for surgical strikes. This would have made more sense than depicting her as a nurse only to be revealed as an Intelligence officer later on.
2) Carelessness of an army officer
Army is known for its powerful and smart soldiers who would do nothing carelessly. During the URI attack scene, Mohit Raina tries to pick the gun from a militant so carelessly that it triggers a bomb and ultimately leads to his death.
I am confident and so would you be, that an army person will not be so careless towards a militant's weapons who was attacking his base camp moments back.
This isn't a behavior that we would ever see from an army officer. A careless approach while trying to pick a gun from a militant isn't a good thing to showcase on an army officer.
3) The Attack by Kirti Kulhari and Melodrama
Kirti Kulhari is a powerful performer and make no mistake about it, she did a good job in the role that was assigned to her. Her work was of amazing notch, but what didn't connect was the fact that when there were inputs which didn't allow her helicopter to enter the other territory, then where was the helicopter during the entire process. It couldn't be hidden in the jungle, as it was already caught on radar, and couldn't cross the line. So, was it kept hiding somewhere to just appear out of the blue. Also, the overall, 'Jaskeerat Ji, this is for you' dialogue seemed like a bit too dramatic. While it is a possibility that the armed forces would state some words to instill josh, but that sure as hell wouldn't be the melodramatic lines by Kirti Kulhari towards the end.
4) No Return plan from Vihaan Shergill
When you enter someone else's place, especially when it is someone like your bothering neighbor you would be sure that they wouldn't welcome you with open arms.
The entire movie showcased the attack plan, but didn't talk about the retrieving plan. The plan was misjudged, and that led to Vihaan asking for help from Seerat.
Thanks to the 'Creative Freedom' clause during the start of the movie, that these flaws were forgotten due to the amazing valor of our armed forces in real that was showcased on screen by the wonderful performers.
I thought except these aspects the movie was wonderful, and displayed the brilliant efforts of our brave men and women in uniform. If you have watched the movie, tell me, 'Howz the Josh?'
