3 reasons why Tanushree Dutta's claims raise some important questions

Tanushree Dutta worked in B-Town for a short span and took a hiatus from the show-biz, until she talked about the sexual harrasment by Nana Patekar. While this issue is still fresh, another case of Vikas Behl has been in the news and his name hasn't been in this case for the first time.

Unlike Vikas, Nana has never been accused for such activities, but if there is any truth to the claims by Tanushree Dutta then it is an alarming condition, and the film fraternity as well as the law must take sui-motto of this situation. While some of us may take stands on this issue, we at The Mis Studio condemn any type of atrocities on women, and here are our reasons why this must be looked into well by the law:

1. B-town gets a bad name

There is nothing more wrong than a woman in the film fraternity claiming to be sexually abused, and as much as it demeans the person doing such an act, it also puts the lady in a tough spot. With this case, along with Vikas Behl’s case coming to limelight, the law must take strict actions against offenders if the charges are proved legit because due to someone’s actions an entire fraternity gets a bad name.

2. The Victim Gets Traumatized

It takes courage for a woman to come out and speak her mind on a troublesome experience she had during her time in films. With such an act, she gets abused, harassed and also traumatized by people because of the fact that people start taking stands. It must be understood that a lady knows that there will be scrutiny and a lot of appropriate and inappropriate questions will come her way as part of this, but she speaks her mind. So let’s respect the person, and let the law take its course.

3. The Accused is already a Criminal

While the law takes its course, people are bound to opinion, and some are so quick to call the accused a criminal that they don’t wait for the Hon’ble Court to give their verdict on a case. This happened with Shiney Ahuja and he was already called a criminal, while he was acquitted of charges of wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation and later released on bail by the Bombay High Court. The case stands closed as of now.

We at The Mis Studio hope that with increasing cases of sexual harassment increasing in the film division, the law should provide all the update on how to report any such activity, which will prevent such things from happening.

A better way is to ‘Change The Mindset’ we have against women, just like Asmita Theatre’s play Dastak states during it’s presentation.
