Finding a Genie is a tedious task, but it wasn't this time around as we got the opportunity to speak with our Indian Genie, the man with mystical powers who does everything for his boss, Alladin in the famous TV Show 'Aladdin - Naam Toh Suna Hoga' that airs on Sony SAB, Raashul Tandon.

Raashul loved acting since his early days and has very fond memories about them. He recently shared his thoughts on his journey, the future of film making in Uttar Pradesh and the available options due to OTT platforms with our writer Amit Shukla, and appended are the excerpts from the interview for your reading pleasure.

Q1: What got you into acting and how as well as where did you train about it?

Since childhood I was more active in extra curricular activities & had a profound love for acting, dancing, and elocution. My father always told us to follow our passion, hence. I did my acting course under veteran actor Anupam Kher's Actor Prepares.

Q2: Did you try to step out of your hometown or tried luck before stepping out?

Yes, post my Graduation from National College, Hazratganj, I left for Mumbai in Dec 2008 to try my luck.

Q3: With the evolution of OTT do you think that there is a vast increase in the opportunities in all walks of film making?

Yes, it adds up to the number of platforms an actor can perform. Gone were the days when films were the ultimate goal, goal was the popularity, stardom, which one may attain from TV & OTT now a days.

Q4: What are your favorite movies and why?

Good fellas for the love of Martin Scorsese, Cinema Paradiso for its love for cinema, Joker for the love of acting etc.

Q5: If someone aspires to be an actor or be a part of the film fraternity, which movies should they watch?

Ah! There's a pool of, so much so I may be overwhelmed to give an answer. But for starters Godfather, to understand camera angles & acting. El mariachi to understand how low or almost no budget movie is also possible if you have will.

Q6: Is there any specific genre that you have an inclination to?

Mafia movies


Q7: Which movie and actor left a lasting impact on you and why?

Joe Pesci for his incredible work in good fellas, Heath Ledger & Joaquin Phoenix for joker's role.

Q8: You are a Lucknowite, and with U.P. and specially Lucknow becoming the hub for movie projects, what would you suggest those that wish to move out to Mumbai?

Times have changed, all thanks to Government policies, Lucknow itself is becoming a hub for shooting, one may utilize this opportunity to get the best as producers also try to get actors for the same town, it also helps producers to control there budget as well.

Q9: Is there any specific part that you wish to do apart from acting? (Direction/Writing etc.)

I love acting, this is the only thing I wish to do.


Q10: Any hobby or work (including household) that you like doing in your leisure time?

Reading, movies

Q11: Is there a favorite actor/director you have worldwide, and if so, who and why?

They keep on changing, after watching Joker, which is a master piece, I'm a fan of the actor & director both.

Q12: Anything you wish to share that we may have missed out during the course of this interview?
