5 things that Raj Kapoor movies taught us

Raj Kapoor, the only showman of Bollywood is already dead, but his spirit continues to live on. His work has been path breaking and through his work, he speaks to us everyday, any day. The man, the legend, the great showman of India created some superb gems like Mera Naam Joker, Satyam Shivam Sundaram to name a few.

His first work was with his father Shri Prithviraj Kapoor, the man behind Akbar in Mughal-E-Azam and a great theatre and film artist. Prithviraj Kapoor founded Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai, which is a hub in Mumbai.

While we all know these movies, little did we know that the late great Raj Kapoor Ji, starred at the age of 10 as a child artist in the movie Inquilaab in 1943.

He was a master of all trades, and unlike that famous yet irrelevant quote,'Jack of all trades, master of none', he was the best at anything her set his sights into.

In this article, we will take a look at what 5 of his classics out of the 10 that he directed, stated to us through the dialogues:

5) Anger is never a solution (Awara, 1951)

In the movie Mr. Kapoor plays Raj who kills Jagga in anger, when he finds out, that he was
responsible for his mothers misery.

On the other hand, Rita played by Nargis, defends her case, and tells him that she will wait for him to come out, after 3 years of prison.

4) There is always light (Boot Polish, 1954)

The movie is about two kids who work as a boot polish kids because their wicked aunt wants them to do so. They get separated later, and end up re-uniting at the end. This is what hope is all about, because life is all about hope.

3) The Show Must Go On (Mera Naam Joker, 1970)

This is the true essence of life and everything in general. Raju played by Mr. Kapoor is a clown who suffers heartbreak during multiple chapters showcased in the movie. His final one comes while he is performing as a clown, and gets to know that his mother has dies.

Despite all adversities he continues performing, and clearly showcases the spirit that 'The Show must go on.'

2) Simplicity is the best policy (Shree 420,1955)

The movie showcases Raj, a straightforward graduate who becomes a crook under Sonachand and Nadira. He also falls in love with Nargis who asks him to stop earning money this way. The essence of the movie is showcased beautifully in the lines from the movie,'Aaj gareeb bhi gareeb ko nahin pehchanta'

1) Beauty lies within (Satyam Shivam Sundaram, 1978)

In the age of tinder and other online dating sites, we become most attracted towards the beauty that we see through makeup, not in reality.

The same happens in this movie where Roopa's (Zeenat Aman) laf-burnt face makes Rajeev (Shashi Kapoor) hate him. When he meets her in the night, when her face is covered with a cloth, he can't make out it is his own wife.

Truth be told, it is the way we all look at girls these days. The best dressed and looks wise hot is good for us, whereas, Raj Kapoor stated clearly through this movie, that beauty lies within.
